Allergies

Allergies can arise in connection with parasitic infections as parasites get into the intestinal wall where they can cause damage and pockets where bacteria that normally occur in the intestine can find their way in – causing inflammatory processes which over time can lead to symptoms such as a swollen abdomen, skin rashes, food intolerances and allergies. Skin symtoms with severe itching are also common in infections with mold and in tick-borne infections.

A person who has a parasitic infection can develop allergic reactions that also affect other parts of the body and you can become extra sensitive to substances that you previously did not react to. There are several parasites that can cause these problems, eg roundworm, hookworm and Schistosoma. Schistosoma (also called Bilharzia) is a parasite that in many cases can cause various allergic symptoms. Read more about Schistosoma in the link by pressing the name of the parasite.
